[SOLVED] Kaspersky Browser Download Problem

September 26th, 2009 Jo

Apparently there is a problem when you have Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 (maybe also other versions or Kaspersky Antivirus) installed. When you try to download anything from any of those Download-Sites with your web browser (such as Firefox or Internet Explorer) – your download times out, you can not start that download. By Download-Sites I mean Rapidshare, Megaupload,… The problem didn’t occur immediately when I installed Kaspersky but suddenly appeared yesterday. I don’t have yet the answer for solving it – but for sure will post it once I find it.

Update: I found out that if you leave the browser window open it will eventually download. First it will ask you if you want to save it, and then with Mega speed it will download for example a 200 MB file in 5 seconds. Which could mean that Kaspersky downloads that file somewhere in a Temporary Folder. After it downloaded it and scanned it for Viruses it kind of releases it and you can confirm to save it and have it finally on your computer for good in another few seconds. Still no solution.

Update 2: After reading on the web for a few hours I didn’t find any answer. Although there is some documentation about it in several forums. Some don’t even recognize that the problem is a Kaspersky setting. I don’t have it solved completely but found a workaround for it. OK I’ll show you how:

  • Kaspersky right click on it – choose Settings
  • Web Anti-Virus
  • In Security Level you probably have either High or Recommended. You will choose temporarily Low. Apply – OK.
  • Now start all the downloads (if you have more than one..) After they started change the setting back to the one it was before. I have mine on Recommended.

That’s already it. You will see that suddenly all your downloads start. I found out that not only downloads from Rapidshare, Megaupload,… don’t “download” but also from Microsoft,… So as I assumed before, the second you want to start a download Kaspersky internally starts downloading your file to a temporary folder on your computer. You just don’t see it. You might not even find that problem if your download files are small. I mean if you  have a fast internet connection and the download is a few MB you will never realize you have a problem.
